16th August 2008 Windsurfing: The Dip-Felixstowe Wind Direction: SE Wind Stength: up to 15 Surf / Sea State: mod Air Temperature: 19 Sea Temperature: 17 Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 21.7 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 31.5 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Started with breakfast at the dip with Mag and by 11 o clock several windsurfers had arrived.It was not the best time to go out as it was nearly high water with not much beach,a dumpy break and onshore winds all adding up to make it difficult to get off the beach!!! With onshore winds it always seems more windy than it is and today was no different,after rigging 7.5 on the Xantos and doing a quick 8 miles,including a trip to Bawdsey Martello but abit under all the time.So back to change to the carve with 8.5.My plan was to sail to the Manor end then video the return broad reach back,but after landing on the beach after 5 miles realised I had no battery in the camera-what a pillock!!!! but it was a good reach back. I tried it again but struggled as the wind had dropped,the 12 kiters were still going okay in the river mouth but were using the tide against wind to get them going.A good 3hrs 31 mins out with loads out !!! |
